Yen Tu Pagoda – sacred mountain
Yen Tu is a mountain range stretching across three provinces of Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, and Hai Duong. Yen Tu Pagoda is located in Nam Mau village, Thuong Yen Cong commune, Uong Bi city, Quang Ninh. With an altitude of about 1,068 meters above sea level, this is the place where Buddha Emperor Nhan Tong chose to practice and preach monks and nuns. After spending time here practicing, he created and built Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen Monastery.
The road up the mountain
Road length: To get to Tran Quoc Pagoda, visitors must go through a road about 6 KM long to climb the mountain.
On this road, the trees are green in all four seasons, seemingly absorbing the sacred spirit of heaven and earth.

Unique architecture
Yen Tu Pagoda in Quang Ninh has Buddhist architecture, a majestic two-story, eight-roofed three-entrance gate with a pagoda roof covered with curved scale tiles in the shape of a knife’s head pointing straight to the sky. All are made of sturdy ironwood, with large slabs surrounding them at the base.
In the middle of a large blue stone courtyard, a prominent tower soars high into the sky. The tower’s floors are simply built, with a stone lotus bud shaped at the top. The tower faces south, inside is a statue of Buddha sitting in meditation, chanting mantras with both hands. The statue’s pedestal has soft, delicate patterns of cloud dragons, chrysanthemums, and lotus flowers.
Another road from Bac Giang
Yen Tu Mountain has many complicated climbing routes, but pilgrims and tourists do not know much about the climbing routes from Bac Giang, because Yen Tu mountain was formerly in the territory of Bi Giang province.
Legend has it that An Ky Sinh cultivated and attained enlightenment to become an immortal here, so it is called An (Yen) Tu mountain. This is also the king’s road Tran Nhan Tong meditated to the top.
Truc Lam Zen sect
Truc Lam sect was founded by King Tran and is considered a form of Official Buddhism of Dai Viet during the Tran Dynasty. Sacred Yen Tu is a historical testament as the Buddhist center of the country, associated with many ancient architecture, built through different historical periods.
