Vietnam meets great expectation to enhance Visa exemption for foreign countries

It clearly exemplifies that visa exemption is a strong tool to enhance tourism, draws the attention of international tourists, costs less during traveling, and saves travelers more time to enjoy the journey. 

On 15th February 2024, the Prime Minister of Vietnam urged key tasks after the Tet holiday. He requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to soon summarize and evaluate the application of the unilateral visa exemption policy for citizens of 13 countries recently. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Public Security needs to propose expanding countries whose citizens are unilaterally exempted from Vietnamese visas.

In addition, experts set great goals that the entire EU or some members will be added to Vietnam’s Visa exemption list. As this market has a “quality” tourist group, waiving visas for visits of six to twelve months is expected to drive tourism recovery. 

Vietnam is considering issuing long-term and multiple-entry visas from 12 – 36 months to attract tourists from Europe, Northeast Asia, North America, India, and some Middle Eastern countries.

Vietnam is considering issuing long-term and multiple-entry visas from 12 – 36 months to attract tourists from Europe and other countries.

Within the list of foreign countries whose citizens are unilaterally exempted from visas would be expanded, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Britain, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Belarus.

Research by the World Tourism Organization shows that visa exemption can help increase the number of visitors by 25%, stimulating demand for tourism services such as accommodation, travel, dining, entertainment, and shopping.

With great expectations for the Visa exemption study in Vietnam, it is hoped that at least citizens of the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, and Belgium will be considered first. These are all countries with top tourist sources in Europe, especially the Netherlands. Europe is where high-quality groups are located and easy to come to Vietnam because there are direct flights from England, France, and Germany.

For the time being, promoting international tourists includes many alternatives. Vietnam needs to promote tourism abroad better, promoting strongly at international trade exhibitions such as ITB Berlin, WTM London, and ILTM Shanghai.
