Feast your eyes on the unique ‘aquarium’ pedestrian bridge in Hanoi
The pedestrian bridge in Hanoi – Tran Nhat Duat was decorated with sea creatures made from recycled plastic and promised to be a new check-in location for the locals and tourists. This is a public art project to celebrate the 49th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national unification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2024) and International Labor Day, May 1.
After a decade of usage, the cross-over bridge Tran Nhat Duat (Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi) is renovated with recycled parts. After many years of being in use, the bridge that has been stained by time is now wearing a “new outfit”.
Above the canopy of this overpass are images of fish, squid, and jellyfish… made from recycled plastic bottles collected by students from elementary schools in the district.
Along the bridge corridor is a light installation with the theme “Waves”. The frivolous drawings evoke memories of the waves of the Red River transporting alluvium throughout the nation’s history. Interspersed among the waves are images of workers in the study book Techniques of the Annam People by French soldier Henri Oger.
The painting Carp Crossing Vu Mon from Hang Trong folk painting Treasure is designed and displayed at the foot of the stairs going up and down from both directions.
The project to renovate and decorate the Tran Nhat Duat pedestrian bridge was carried out by a group of artists who have participated in many public art projects such as Phuc Tan Street, Phung Hung Street…
The cross-over bridge used to be a gathering hub for street vendors, or waste assembly. Thanks to beautiful art crafts made by children, with the idea of adorning the city with fresh colors at old structures, the locals and tourists now have the chance to adorn the new outlook of the bridge.
